# Phone, WhatsApp, and Signal

> Activate an assigned number for calls, SMS, WhatsApp, or Signal and troubleshoot registration.

# Use your worker's assigned number

Before creating these channels, [reserve and assign an active phone number](https://docs.odella.ai/platform/phone-numbers.md) to the intended AI Employee. Provider registration, channel publication, and inbound access are separate checks.

## Phone: SMS and voice

1. Add **Phone** to the worker's channels.
2. Select the number actively assigned to that worker.
3. Enable **SMS**, **voice calls**, or both. At least one must be enabled, and the number must support the selected capabilities.
4. Review **Channel Access**, voice settings, and any presented outbound-calling terms.
5. Complete publication. The app verifies routing with the carrier; resolve reported verification errors before retrying.
6. Test an inbound text or call from an allowed contact.

Outbound calls and messages remain subject to the applicable policy and approval flow. Phone service is not the same as browser [Talk](https://docs.odella.ai/workforce/talk.md); also review account [funding and limits](https://docs.odella.ai/platform/billing-and-credits.md).

## WhatsApp

1. Add **WhatsApp** and select the worker's assigned number.
2. Review the display name and submit the channel's registration flow.
3. Check the registration status. Meta display-name approval may be required before messaging activates.
4. If rejected, read the provider reason and correct the setup using the offered controls.
5. After approval and activation, test a message from an allowed contact.

A number active for SMS is not proof that WhatsApp registration is complete. Do not promise immediate activation while provider review is pending.

## Signal

1. Add **Signal** using the assigned active number.
2. Start the registration flow in the setup guide.
3. Follow the displayed SMS-verification state. If a CAPTCHA is requested, complete the provided challenge and retry through the guide.
4. Refresh the registration status until active or until a specific error needs attention.
5. Configure a username where offered, review the contact link, and complete publication when allowed.
6. Test with an allowed contact using the current contact link or number.

Signal registration can be **unregistered**, **pending verification**, **active**, or **rejected**. A verification request does not mean the channel is ready to use.

## Troubleshooting

| Problem | Check |
| - | - |
| **Number missing or assigned elsewhere** | Assign an active number to this worker in Account → Phone numbers. |
| **SMS or voice unsupported** | Change the enabled options or select a suitable number. |
| **Provider approval pending** | Check registration status before resubmitting or creating another channel. |
| **Signal verification rejected** | Read the reason, complete any CAPTCHA, and use the supported retry controls. |
| **Active channel does not respond** | Check publication, inbound policy, worker state, account eligibility, and Activity. |
| **Outbound action is waiting** | Resolve the current [approval](https://docs.odella.ai/workforce/approvals.md); do not create a duplicate send. |

> [!WARNING]
>
> Review local calling, messaging, identity-verification, and consent
> requirements before enabling a public number. Provider encryption does not
> eliminate Odella's processing or your responsibility for information sent to
> the worker.
