Turn a procedure into a reusable skill

A private skill packages working instructions for your account. Use one for a repeatable method, quality checklist, or specialist procedure—not as a substitute for giving the worker access to the required tools or source documents.
The skills workshop is available only where enabled for your account. Authoring, reviewing, and assigning skills also require the appropriate permissions.

Create or import

1

Open Skills

Open the workforce Skills area and select Create skill.
2

Set the metadata

Enter a name, description, and category. Choose an available slug of 3–64 lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, such as supplier-proposal-review.
3

Write SKILL.md

Explain when to use the skill, what information it needs, how to work, and when to ask a person. You can also drop a single file named SKILL.md into the creation dialog; name and description can be populated from its metadata.
4

Submit for review

Create the private skill. This opens a merge request for review; a newly submitted draft is not yet an approved skill ready for use.

Example skill

Do not put credentials, customer secrets, or unnecessary personal data in a skill. Reference approved knowledge and tools instead.

Review proposed changes

Open Merge requests and select the proposal. Compare Changes with Proposed files, then open the review panel.
  1. Inspect the security scan and quality evaluation states.
  2. Read the attached evidence rather than relying only on a passing label.
  3. Review every instruction and any supporting files for unintended sends, unsafe execution, data exposure, or overly broad responsibilities.
  4. Use Request changes, Reject, or Approve changes as appropriate.
  5. After approval, use Merge request where offered to apply the approved revision.
Approval and merging are separate steps. Check the resulting skill and version before assigning it.

Quarantined proposals

A quarantine needs a reasoned review. Return to review, when offered to an authorized reviewer, returns the proposal to the review process; it does not itself approve or publish the skill. Resolve the underlying concern and follow the normal review steps. Do not bypass a warning simply to make the skill usable.

Assign and test

Add the approved skill from the worker’s capability picker. Test a representative request and at least one case with missing information. Confirm the worker follows the boundaries, has the required tools and knowledge, and returns the expected result. When changing an existing skill, review the proposed revision and retest affected workers. Account-private visibility is not publication to the public marketplace.

Troubleshooting

  • Slug unavailable: Choose a distinct slug and wait for validation.
  • Import rejected: Drop exactly one file named SKILL.md.
  • Skill not usable yet: Check review, approval, and merge status—not just whether the draft was saved.
  • Worker ignores the method: Make the description’s usage conditions specific and check that the approved skill is actually assigned.
